MIAMISBURG, OHIO – On August 24, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) and Michelle Collins, Mayor of Miamisburg, held a press conference at the Mound Science and Energy Museum to announce the renaming of portions of the Mound Connector after former Miamisburg Mayor Richard C. Church Jr. In Fiscal Year 2023, Congressman Turner secured $1 million in federal funding for the Mound Connector Highway Project. The Mound Connector Project is a concerted effort between the City of Miamisburg, Montgomery County, Miami Township and The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission to complete roadway improvements on the Miamisburg-Springboro Pike from Medlar Road to Benner Road, and Benner Road from Miamisburg-Springboro Pike to Dayton-Cincinnati Pike.

“I’m very proud that I was able to secure a million dollars toward the upgrade and some of the completion of the Mound Connector,” said Congressman Mike Turner. “It was part of the overall plan that Mayor Church had for ensuring the economic redevelopment of the Mound. The Miamisburg community and our entire region have been touched by Mayor Church. I know that as people see this dedication to Mayor Church, they will remember his legacy and his work.”

“I especially want to thank our congressman, Mike Turner, for joining us in this ceremony to celebrate former Mayor Dick Church,” said Mayor Michelle Collins. “As the former mayor of Dayton, he understands the importance of partnering with local communities to secure funds to generate projects, so we can continue investing in our city. We are thankful for his unwavering commitment to Miamisburg as well as this very initiative.”

Background:

Richard C. Church Jr. served as Mayor of Miamisburg from 1992 to 2019, the longest tenure in the city's history.

Congressman Turner secured $1 million in federal funding for the Mound Connector in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.

This project includes upgrading Miamisburg-Springboro Pike from Medlar Road to Benner Road and Benner Road from Miamisburg-Springboro Pike to Dayton-Cincinnati Pike. The roadway upgrades are critical to maintaining safe highway infrastructure. These improvements will also open access to the Mound business park, with the goal of increasing economic development in the area.

The road will be ceremonially named the Richard C. Church Jr. Connector.
