DAYTON, OHIO – On June 8, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) announced that over $850,000 in federal funds have been awarded to local firefighters in the Southwest Ohio area. The Miami Valley Fire District and the City of Dayton, both in Turner's district, were allocated funds under the Department of Homeland Security's FY22 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Recipients are eligible to direct these funds toward operations and safety, vehicle acquisition, and regional projects.

“First responders selflessly serve our communities and deserve the best resources available,” said Congressman Mike Turner. “Every day, they put themselves in harm’s way to protect the people of Southwest Ohio. I will always support providing increased funding for the brave men and women who keep the Miami Valley safe.”

FY22 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Awards:

Miami Valley Fire District: $508,386.36

City of Dayton: $372,578.18

Total Funding Secured for Local Fire Departments: $880,964.54

Background:

AFG awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Fire Administration. The grants are used to fund critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies and support community resilience.

Since 2015, more than $10 million has been awarded from the AFG to Miami Valley fire and EMS departments.
