House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Tom Cotton have sent a letter to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. They are requesting a review of intelligence sharing with Spain’s intelligence, defense, and law enforcement services. This action follows reports that Spain's Ministry of the Interior awarded €12.3 million in contracts to Huawei for servers and consulting services related to wiretap systems.
The chairmen expressed concerns about Huawei's connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). "Since the first Trump administration, the United States has waged a whole of government effort to remove the threat Huawei equipment poses to American networks, infrastructure, and privacy," they wrote. They suggested that until Spain takes similar actions, shared information should be redacted to prevent CCP access.
The letter urges Director Gabbard to ensure that U.S. national security secrets are not exposed through these arrangements. The full text of the letter is available for public viewing.
