House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford has expressed concern over Spain's recent decision to contract Huawei for managing intelligence wiretaps. Crawford stated, "This headline is almost unimaginable. Spain is playing with fire as it puts its national security and the safety of its citizens on the line." He warned that by allowing a company associated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to handle sensitive data, Spain could be compromising its own security as well as that of its allies.

Crawford emphasized the risks involved, noting, "With every country that opens its doors to Huawei, they are only providing more opportunities for the CCP-controlled company to mine data used to advance the geopolitical goals of the CCP." He called for a global response against what he described as the "destructive, widespread influence" of the CCP.
