House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence members, Representatives Dan Crenshaw of Texas and Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, have commented on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court's (FISC) recent authorization. The court has approved a new certification for counternarcotics under FISA Section 702. This move follows an amendment co-sponsored by Crenshaw and Houlahan in the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act, enacted last year.
The representatives issued a joint statement expressing satisfaction with the FISC's decision. They emphasized that this certification would enhance U.S. efforts to combat foreign narco-traffickers and prevent deadly narcotics, such as fentanyl, from entering the United States. As members of the HPSCI Cartel Task Force, they stressed their commitment to disrupting cartel operations that profit at the expense of vulnerable individuals.
Crenshaw and Houlahan also highlighted their roles on the House Intelligence Committee, where they plan to oversee the implementation of this certification. Their focus will be on ensuring it is used effectively against foreign drug cartels while protecting American citizens' rights.
