House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford has responded to charges against two Chinese nationals accused of smuggling a dangerous pathogen into the United States. The pathogen, "Fusarium graminearum," poses a threat to U.S. agriculture.

Crawford stated, “The CCP will use every tool in its warfare toolbox to cripple the United States and bring us to our knees." He emphasized that introducing such a pathogen could cause significant economic damage to U.S. agricultural producers and disrupt the nation's food supply, leading to severe national and economic security risks.

He also highlighted his role in advocating for a counterintelligence office within the USDA as part of the FY24 Intel Authorization Act. This office is intended to address threats like these to U.S. agriculture. However, Crawford noted that "the Biden administration refused to implement this law and establish the office."

Crawford urged DNI Gabbard to reconsider this authority and find an effective way forward.
