House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford and Ranking Member Jim Himes have announced the members of a new bipartisan task force focused on addressing threats from drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The HPSCI Cartel Task Force will be led by Congressman Dan Crenshaw and includes Congressmen Jason Crow, Darin LaHood, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan.
Chairman Crawford stated that the task force is a response to the top threats identified in the ODNI’s 2025 Annual Threat Assessment. He expressed gratitude to the members for their commitment to identifying ways in which intelligence agencies can help neutralize these evolving threats.
Ranking Member Himes emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting its focus on proposing solutions to protect American lives and interests. He looks forward to collaborating with all task force members.
Congressman Crenshaw highlighted the escalating situation in Mexico, describing it as a shift from a drug war to a terrorist insurgency. He stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy involving cooperation with both Mexico and the Trump administration.
Congressman Crow remarked on the non-partisan nature of national security issues, emphasizing that protecting America’s homeland should be prioritized. He anticipates working towards bipartisan solutions within the task force.
The task force aims to support legislative efforts against cartel activities such as narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, and arms trade. Any proposed legislative actions will align with HPSCI's jurisdiction and involve consultation with relevant subcommittees and administration needs.
