House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford has addressed the recent arrest of a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) employee. The individual was apprehended for attempting to transmit national defense information to an officer or agent of a foreign government.

Crawford praised the FBI's investigative team for their work under the leadership of FBI Director Patel, stating, "The United States will never stand for attempts to degrade our national security and threaten Americans’ safety."

Expressing concern over counterintelligence threats within government levels and branches, Crawford emphasized his commitment to reforms. He stated, "I am laser-focused on working to put the needed reforms in place to ensure our counterintelligence posture can adapt as rapidly as the enemies’ strategy does and address any points of vulnerability."

The arrest also highlights Director Gabbard’s efforts towards accountability within the intelligence community (IC). Crawford noted that restoring trust requires significant changes, saying, "Americans’ trust in the intelligence community will never be restored if they don’t see major, seismic changes to the current intelligence community." He added that removing such threats is crucial for maintaining integrity within intelligence institutions.
