Today, Congressman Mike Turner from Ohio's 10th district issued a statement congratulating Pope Leo XIV on his historic appointment as the 267th Bishop of Rome. Pope Leo XIV is notable for being the first American to hold this position.
Turner expressed his congratulations by stating, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his appointment to serve as the 267th Bishop of Rome – the first American pope in history.”
Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago and has a background marked by missionary work in Peru, where he served impoverished communities.
