House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Subcommittee on Open-Source Intelligence Chair, Ann Wagner, recently completed a congressional delegation to Europe and the Middle East. The focus of the visit was to discuss security challenges with key U.S. allies and strengthen global alliances through strategic engagements. The delegation met with high-ranking officials in various countries.
In the United Kingdom, Chair Wagner held discussions with the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Foreign Secretary. Topics included the desire to end the Ukraine war and address Iran's support of terrorism through groups like Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah.
In Jordan, discussions were held with King Abdullah II and other officials on national security concerns and regional changes.
The delegation also visited Israel during Holocaust Remembrance Day, attending a remembrance ceremony. Meetings with Prime Minister Netanyahu focused on returning Israeli hostages, defeating Hamas, and achieving Middle Eastern stability. Discussions also involved support for Israel’s hostage return efforts.
"I held an informative meeting in London with intelligence officials on our shared mission to stand up against the ongoing threats Russia, China, and Iran pose to innocents worldwide. Our nations comprise a vital partnership where we share intelligence that keeps us ahead of our adversaries so we can confront threats before they reach us here at home," Chair Wagner stated. She also emphasized the U.S.'s commitment to helping Israel destroy Hamas, deter Iran, and ensure greater stability in the Middle East.
Chair Wagner noted, "The threats facing the United States are real and they have the potential to threaten the very stability of our world that keeps our children safe. Our allies know the United States is a key partner for economic and security matters, but it was also encouraging to hear them recognize that the United States cannot shoulder the burdens of the world alone."
The visit aimed to enhance cooperation and intelligence sharing regarding shared security threats.
