Today, Congressman Mike Turner issued a statement concerning the budget reconciliation proposal from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. In his remarks, Turner highlighted his stance on federal spending reductions.
"The goal of reconciliation should be to reduce overall government spending by eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse and reducing needless and unnecessary spending," he stated. Turner expressed his opposition to cuts affecting federal workers' pensions. "I oppose any and all efforts to reduce federal spending by taking money from the hard-earned pensions of federal workers. These pensions are not giveaways – they are promises to federal workers in exchange for their dedicated service," he said.
He made clear his stance against the current draft proposal, stating, "I will not support and will not vote for the House Oversight Committee’s current draft proposal reducing earned pension benefits for current federal employees." Turner remains hopeful that the committee will reconsider its position on the matter.
