The "Think Freedom" art project, conceived in Sarajevo and celebrated internationally, is set to make its U.S. debut at The Arcade in downtown Dayton during the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session this May. Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) proudly announced its arrival, highlighting the symbolic importance of the installation.
"The arrival of the 'Think Freedom' art installation in Dayton for Dayton 2025 is a powerful symbol of resilience, unity, and the enduring pursuit of freedom," Turner expressed. He noted the special connection Dayton holds with Bosnia due to the Dayton Peace Accords and stated that the art installation serves as "both a tribute to the past and an inspiration for a future built on peace and security."
Edina Seleskovic, the creator of Think Freedom, shared her vision by stating, "I believe that art still has the universal power to inspire, that art can give impulses of hope, imagination, and creativity in order to build freedom and connectivity - simply put, to build a better world." Seleskovic explained, "Think Freedom is a unique way of art metamorphosing from an object into a beacon of communication and community."
Lisa Hanson, President and CEO of Culture Works, discussed the power of art to connect different cultures: "Art has the remarkable ability to speak to the human experience on a universal level. Whether it's visual arts, music, dance, or literature, the essence of art resonates across cultural boundaries." Hanson also expressed anticipation for the local community to engage with the project.
"We are honored to host Think Freedom at the historic Dayton Arcade," stated David Williams, Vice President of Development for Cross Street Partners. According to Williams, the exhibition is a testament to resilience and creativity, aligning with the Arcade's mission to foster arts and innovation.
The Think Freedom project, integrating multiple art forms and modern communication technologies, began in Sarajevo and has toured numerous cities, including the Vatican and Brussels. It commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords, a significant diplomatic achievement that helped stabilize Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The installation opens to the public at the Dayton Arcade on May 21, with viewing times extended through May 31. Details and updates are available at https://cultureworks.org/think-freedom-dayton/. Throughout the event, Miami Valley's local schools and artists will collaborate with Seleskovic to enhance the installation with words and phrases that resonate with peace.
