Today, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence convened to assess worldwide threats to U.S. national security. Chairman Rick Crawford opened the hearing with remarks emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and respecting constitutionally-protected rights during the session.
Chairman Crawford outlined several global threats, including ongoing conflicts involving Russia, Ukraine, and North Korea, as well as Iran's continued support for terrorist organizations in the Middle East. He expressed concern over China's expanding military and espionage activities and highlighted issues related to border security, citing an increase in illegal migration and associated risks.
Crawford also addressed a recent group text message exchange involving members of President Trump's National Security team and a journalist. He criticized past intelligence assessments for lacking integrity and objectivity, pointing to instances such as the Trump/Russia collusion investigation and COVID-19 origins analysis.
He acknowledged the dedication of intelligence community employees but warned against leaders who misuse their positions. Crawford called for accountability within intelligence institutions to restore public trust.
The hearing featured testimony from key figures including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, FBI Director Kash Patel, NSA Director General Tim Haugh, and DIA Director Lieutenant General Jeffrey Kruse. Crawford urged these leaders to provide candid assessments of current threats facing the United States.
