The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) convened for its first business meeting of the 119th Congress in Washington, D.C., adopting new rules by voice vote. The committee, established in 1977, continues its mission to oversee the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC).
Chairman Crawford emphasized the committee's dedication to ensuring that the IC meets its objectives while protecting against potential abuses. He highlighted the evolving threat landscape and the significance of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), announcing a new Subcommittee on OSINT to enhance oversight.
Crawford stated, "When HPSCI was established in 1977, it was given one mission: to oversee all aspects of the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) on behalf of the American people... I look forward to working with all my colleagues to ensure we are delivering a free, safe, and stronger America."
Ranking Member Himes expressed his commitment to advancing national security goals while safeguarding civil liberties. He remarked, "I am honored to serve alongside this dedicated group of Members in fulfilling the Committee’s mission... Congratulations to my colleagues on their subcommittee assignments."
Subcommittee chair appointments were announced as follows:
- Subcommittee on the Central Intelligence Agency: Brian Fitzpatrick as Chairman and Jimmy Gomez as Ranking Member; Darin LaHood as Vice Chairman.
- Subcommittee on the National Intelligence Enterprise: Austin Scott as Chairman and André Carson as Ranking Member.
- Subcommittee on Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture: Dan Crenshaw as Chairman and Mike Quigley as Ranking Member.
- Subcommittee on the National Security Agency and Cyber: Darin LaHood as Chairman and Josh Gottheimer as Ranking Member.
- Subcommittee on Open Source Intelligence: Ann Wagner as Chairwoman; Ranking Member TBD.
- Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations: Ronny Jackson as Chairman; Ranking Member TBD.
