The Dayton City Commission has approved the second round of demolitions funded by the Dayton Recovery Plan. The decision, made on October 23, will lead to the demolition of approximately 200 vacant houses in several neighborhoods. These areas include Old North Dayton, Edgemont, Dayton View, Santa Clara, MacFarlane, Riverdale, Twin Towers, Five Oaks, and Roosevelt.

Two construction companies have been contracted for this project. Charles F. Jergens Construction, Inc., is tasked with demolishing around 100 structures under a $2,192,580 agreement. Similarly, Bladecutters, Inc., will also take down about 100 structures under a contract worth $2,556,960.

Additionally, a third contract awarded to Charles F. Jergens Construction, Inc., valued at $505,140 and funded by federal Community Development Block Grant funds, will allow for the demolition of approximately 30 structures in Westwood, Burkhardt, and Arlington Heights.

Alongside these demolition efforts, the City Commission has authorized the final contract within its $10 million initiative aimed at replacing or repairing sidewalks and curbs in focus neighborhoods. A contract worth $667,635 with Belgray Inc., will bring improvements to the Five Oaks neighborhood.

The Dayton Recovery Plan represents the city’s strategy for utilizing $138 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds intended for recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan aims to create long-term transformational impacts in key areas and special initiatives across the city. Further information can be found at daytonohio.gov/drp.
