DAYTON, OHIO – Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) announced today that more than $35,000 in federal funds have been awarded to a local fire department in the Miami Valley. The City of Dayton, within Turner's district, received the allocation under the Department of Homeland Security’s Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program.

“Our firefighters and first responders represent the very best of our community. I am proud to have secured federal funding to bolster the important work of our exemplary first responders in Dayton,” said Congressman Mike Turner. “I will continue to advocate for the Miami Valley’s first responders in Congress. These funds from the Department of Homeland Security will significantly enhance the capabilities of our local first responders.”

The FY23 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Awards allocated $39,999.04 to the City of Dayton.

The AFG awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Fire Administration. These grants support projects that enhance public and firefighter safety from fire and related hazards.

Since 2015, more than $11 million has been awarded from the AFG to fire and EMS departments in the Dayton area.
