WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10), head of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, issued a statement following the North Atlantic Council’s appointment of Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, as the next Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

“As head of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Rutte on his appointment as the next Secretary General of NATO. For 75 years, NATO has served as the most successful military alliance in history. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Rutte to continue strengthening the Alliance and bolstering our collective defense capabilities,” said Turner.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte will assume his role as Secretary General of NATO on October 1, 2024. Jens Stoltenberg, the current Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Norway, has led the Alliance since October 1, 2014.
