Congressman Mike Turner and Senator Sherrod Brown held a press conference in Dayton to discuss their efforts to restore pension payments for Delphi salaried retirees who were wrongfully terminated in 2009. Turner introduced the Susan Muffley Act last February, aiming to benefit over 21,000 Delphi Salaried Retirees, including more than 5,000 Ohioans. Senator Brown has introduced companion legislation in the Senate, with the House passing the bill last Congress.

"We are sitting with an injustice that has been going on for over a decade... We need to hold the administration accountable for this and move the Senate," said Congressman Mike Turner.

Senator Sherrod Brown emphasized, "The Susan Muffley Act is the bipartisan solution Delphi workers deserve... I will use every tool available to get it done to restore full retirement benefits for the more than 5,000 Ohioans who earned these pensions over a lifetime of work."

Bruce Gump, Chairman of the Delphi Salaried Retirees Association, expressed, "We fight for our pensions because we earned it... Is that the kind of America that we want? It’s not what it’s supposed to be. And that's why we fight."

Tom Rose, Member of the Board of the Delphi Salaried Retirees Association, added, "All we’re asking for is to return our pension – we earned it, the money’s there, just give it back to us."

Mary Miller, a Delphi Salaried Retiree, shared, "This is a case of the government deciding we didn’t matter... Justice delayed is truly justice denied."

Tom Green, another Delphi Salaried Retiree, mentioned, "There’s a lot of us... We appreciate what these guys are going to do. We’re here to help them, but we need to get it done this year."

The Susan Muffley Act aims to provide backpay for the past 15 years of pension payments that should have been received, as well as restore full pension payments going forward. Over 21,000 Delphi retirees, including approximately 5,180 Ohio residents, are impacted by this legislation.

In 1998, Delphi was acquired by General Motors, and during GM’s government bailout in 2009, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation took trusteeship of Delphi employees’ pensions at the direction of the Obama Administration. This action led to a significant reduction in pensions for the Delphi Salaried Retirees, prompting the formation of the Delphi Salaried Retirees Association.

Congressman Turner has been working alongside the DSRA to restore their benefits throughout different administrations, aiming to bring justice and financial relief to the retirees who have been impacted by this pension issue.
