With all the family gatherings planned across the City, Centerville Public Works stays extra busy during the holiday season picking up residents’ trash and recycling.

Remember as you clean up from all the fun festivities, not everything is recyclable.

Our elves at Public Works put together a special recycling naughty or nice list, so make sure you check it twice before throwing things out this holiday season.

If the item is listed under nice, throw it in the recycle bin.  If the item is listed under naughty, make sure you throw it in the trash instead.

Nice (Recycle these!)

• Non-foil wrapping paper
• Gift boxes
• Paper gift bags
• Christmas cards
• Aluminum soup/beverage cans
• Cardboard
• Glass wine bottles
• Newspapers
• Junk mail
• Clean pizza boxes
• Plastic bottles, jugs and tubs
• Cartons (no egg or ice cream cartons)

Naughty (Throw these in the trash!):

• Christmas lights
• Extension cords
• Batteries
• Ribbons and bows
• Tissue paper
• Foil wrapping paper
• Whipped cream cans
• Plastic bags
• Plastic packaging
• Styrofoam
• Plastic toys
• Aluminum pie/food pans
• Cups, plates, cutlery
• Paper towels and napkins
• Clothing (Including those ugly Christmas sweaters)

The City of Centerville once again will collect any real Christmas trees disposed of at the curb. Christmas trees will be collected Dec. 27 through Jan. 12.  Residents should place trees without decorations at the curb.  Pickup is done by a separate truck the same day as waste collection.  Trees are turned into mulch, which is later used on City properties.
