Guests Host DML Storytimes for NAHM

November is Native American Heritage Month, which recognizes the history, contributions, and livelihood of American Indian and Alaska Native Indigenous people. To kick off a month of celebrating, Dayton Metro Library will host two unique storytime events:

Children’s Story Hour with Stephanie Van Hoose

Stephanie Van Hoose, Mohawk, MBQ, T-MT, is an Indigenous educator and advocate. She’ll conduct a reading of We Are Water Protectors, by recent Caldecott winner Carole Lindstrom, followed by leading kids in a hands-on experience with different medicine items and teaching “Pow Wow” terminology. (For Families, Pre-K/K, Grades 1-4, and Tweens)

  • Vandalia Branch: Tuesday, November 1, 1:30 - 3 pm
  • Miamisburg Branch: Tuesday, November 1, 6:30 - 8 pm
Toddler Time-on-the-Go with Boonshoft Museum of Discovery

Boonshoft educators will present a story and age-appropriate activities that highlight the connections between people of the past and today, including exploring artifacts and creating artwork. (For Pre-K/K, and Babies/Toddlers)

  • West Carrollton Branch: Tuesday, November 1, 10:30 - 11 am
  • Southeast Branch: Wednesday, November 2, 11 am - 12 pm
  • Vandalia Branch: Wednesday, November 2, 11 am - 12 pm
  • Miamisburg Branch: Thursday, November 3, 10 - 10:30 am
  • Huber Heights Branch: Monday, November 7, 5 - 6 pm
  • Main Library: Tuesday, November 8, 10 - 11 am
  • Burkhardt Branch: Thursday, November 10, 10 - 10:45 am
  • Wilmington-Stroop Branch: Wednesday, November 16, 10 - 11 am
