Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) and Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) introduced a resolution to observe the 134th anniversary of the 1890 Land Grant Universities.
“I was proud to work with Central State University in 2014 to pass legislation that rightfully designated CSU as an 1890 land grant institution. CSU and other land grant universities continue to provide education and research opportunities to historically underserved student populations," said Congressman Mike Turner. "This resolution is an important celebration of the 134th anniversary of the designation of 1890 land grant universities and the 10th anniversary of Central State University’s designation as a land grant institution.”
"1890s are a cornerstone of their communities and an integral part of the land grant system and of higher education in this country,” said Congresswoman Alma Adams. “For 134 years, these 19 universities have contributed in innumerable ways to our students, our agricultural sector, and society at large—and this resolution enumerates a small sample of their successes over the past year alone. As a twice-over 1890 graduate—Aggie pride!—I am thrilled to introduce this resolution with Rep. Turner and to continue being a champion for 1890s as we deliberate on the Farm Bill.”
Both Rep. Turner and Rep. Adams are members of the Congressional Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus, which was founded by Congresswoman Adams in 2015.
