Kate Baker has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners, with elections slated for March 19.
According to the 2024 Montgomery County Candidate Report, Baker is running as a Republican.
Her campaign website reveals that since her election to the Huber Heights City Council in 2021, Baker has served on multiple boards and committees. She is now running for Montgomery County Commissioner "because we need a commissioner who is focused on better serving our community, not their next paycheck."
Baker states on her campaign website that she strongly advocates for public safety and support for law enforcement and first responders. She also highlights her credentials as a fiscal conservative, drawing attention to her record of approving fiscally responsible budgets during her tenure on the Huber Heights City Council. If elected to the board of county commissioners, Baker promises to be "a watchdog for our tax dollars and make sure that tax dollars are used in the most effective way possible."
On her website, Baker shares that she is a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. As a single mother to her daughter, she believes she understands the challenges faced by working families. Her educational background includes an associate degree in financial management from Sinclair Community College and a Bachelor of Science in economics and organizational management from Wright State University.
The Ohio County Commissioners' Handbook defines the board of county commissioners as the general administrative body of county government. The responsibilities of this board encompass taxation, budgeting, appropriation, and purchasing. The board consists of three members: two are elected during presidential election years while one member is elected during gubernatorial election years.
