Today, Congressman Mike Turner from Ohio's 10th district expressed his support for Ukraine and called for the passage of the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025. This comes after Ukraine's recent successful strikes against Russia. In a statement, Turner emphasized the importance of supporting those who fight for their freedom, highlighting Ukraine's bravery and resolve as an inspiration worldwide.

Turner stated, "The United States has always stood with those who fight for their freedom. From the beginning of Russia’s invasion, Ukraine’s bravery and resolve has served as inspiration for many across the world." He added that mere inspiration is insufficient to halt Russia's aggression or bring them to meaningful negotiations.

He urged strong U.S. support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression and stressed the need for economic pressure matching Ukraine’s courage on the battlefield. Turner supports the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, which proposes secondary sanctions on individuals or entities affiliated with Russia and countries purchasing Russian oil, uranium, and petroleum products. The bill includes a significant tariff on indirect imports from Russia to the United States.

Turner explained that this legislation would significantly impact Russia's ability to resupply its military with weapons and munitions. He encouraged U.S. allies to adopt similar measures.

The Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 aims to impose strict sanctions on Russia if it does not engage in good faith negotiations with Ukraine. It outlines U.S. policy to provide sustainable security assistance levels to Ukraine to prevent future invasions by Russia. The bill also imposes tariffs on countries purchasing Russian-origin oil and related products.
