Today, Congressman Mike Turner from Ohio's 10th district expressed his approval of the manager’s amendment to the reconciliation bill. The amendment removed a provision from the Oversight Committee that would have reduced pension benefits for current federal employees.
In a statement, Turner emphasized, "The pensions of federal workers will not be cut to allow tax breaks. They have been earned." He continued by stating his opposition to any efforts aimed at reducing federal spending by taking money from federal workers. "Federal workers have earned their pensions through years of hard work and sacrifice. These benefits are not handouts – they are promises made, and promises that must be kept."
Turner described this development as a "victory for fairness" and committed to ensuring future spending cuts focus on eliminating waste rather than breaking commitments to the workforce.
Previously, on April 30, during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee meeting, Turner voiced concerns over the budget reconciliation proposal's impact on federal workers' pensions. He argued for more efficient methods of reducing government spending without targeting employee benefits.
