Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) presented Marya Rutherford-Long with the 2023 Congressional Community Service Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the African-American community in Dayton, Ohio. This annual award is given to individuals who have made a unique and positive impact on the community.

Rutherford-Long, who is the Vice President and Community and Economic Development Manager for the Dayton Region at Fifth Third Bank, has dedicated over 30 years to community development and improving the lives of those in need. Congressman Turner, who has known Rutherford-Long for over three decades, praised her for her dedication and commitment to the community.

"We are very excited to be here today to honor Marya Rutherford-Long," said Congressman Turner. "She has worked diligently on community development, enriching our community, looking at ways that we can improve our neighborhoods and the lives of those in need. She has gone from neighborhood leader to banking leader, advancing the same issues, advancing the same causes."

Rutherford-Long expressed her gratitude for the award, stating, "I'd like to thank Congressman Turner for this wonderful award. The most wonderful thing about it - it is not really about the award. It's about the work that we've done for 30 years. It represents the lives that have been impacted, the communities and neighborhoods, and even the government organizations that have been influenced by our work."

With over 25 years of CRA/community development experience, Rutherford-Long has held various community development management roles with PNC Bank, National City Bank, Provident Bank, and the Dayton View CDC. She currently serves as the chair of the Homeownership Center of Greater Dayton and is a member of the Dayton Business Journal's Diversity Committee and the Corporate Community Roundtable.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Rutherford-Long has been actively involved in community service. She is the president of the Board of Trustees for the Miami Valley Urban League and chairs the Miami Chapel Neighborhood Housing Committee. Her dedication to community service has been recognized by organizations such as the YWCA of Dayton, the Dayton Daily News, and the Dayton Business Journal.

The Congressional Community Service Award is a testament to Rutherford-Long's unwavering commitment to improving Dayton's African-American community. Her work has positively impacted the lives of many, and her dedication serves as an inspiration to others.
