Women's Basketball Hosts Fordham On National Television Sunday

The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home for its first nationally televised game of the year on Sunday when the Flyers host Fordham University at 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the weekend with a 1-1 Atlantic 10 mark and 2-11 record overall on the season. The Flyers end their road stretch and return to UD Arena where it was victorious last outing over Cedarville.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her first season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

As a team this year, the Flyers are averaging 65.3 points per game and giving up 69.6 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 40.7 percent overall, 33.3 percent from three point range, and 72.6 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers are outrebounding teams by a +5.9 margin, but committing almost six more turnovers per game.

Dayton is led by redshirt junior Destiny Bohanon with 12.2 points per game while senior Mariah Perez is contributing 10.6 points and 8.1 rebounds each outing. Newcomers Sydney Freeman (10.2 ppg, 18 3 pts) and Arianna Smith (9.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg) are contributing as starters as well.

SCOUTING FORDHAM
Fordham comes to Ohio with a 10-5 record on the year and 2-0 A-10 mark. The Rams have won three in a row and have just one loss in the last seven. Fordham is 2-2 on the road this year.

Former assistant coach Candice Green is serving as the interim head coach and is in her first season at the helm.

As a team, the Rams are scoring 73.2 points each outing and holding opponents 62.9 points per contest. Fordham is shooting 42.2 percent from the floor, 34.1 percent from behind the arc, and 79.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Rams are outrebounding opposing teams and committing fewer turnovers.

Fordham is led by Asiah Dingle with 19.3 points per game while Anna DeWolfe is adding 17.4 points and Kaitlyn Downey is chipping in 112.3 points and 9.3 rebounds each outing.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered its first A-10 loss in a heartbreaking 70-69 defeat at Duquesne Thursday. The Flyers stormed back from a 16-point deficit and made it a one-possession game in the final minute. Arianna Smith had her first double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Fordham remained unbeaten in A-10 play with a one-point victory of their own, defeating VCU on a last second shot on Wednesday, 60-59. Asiah Dingle had a team-high 23 points in the comeback.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Fordham have met 35 times previously with the Flyers controlling the series at 27 wins to the Rams' eight victories. UD has won two in a row, including both match-ups last season. The last meeting took place on Feb. 19, 2022 in the Bronx with Dayton squeaking out a 48-47 victory.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
As a team, Dayton ranks 46th in the country in defensive rebounds per game and 53rd in total rebounding. Individually, Mariah Perez is 29th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game.

UP NEXT
The Flyers remain at home to host Davidson College on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena.
