The University of Dayton volleyball team is traveling to Richmond, Virginia, today ahead of two Atlantic 10 Conference matches at VCU this weekend. UD and VCU will square off on both Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Rams' Siegel Center.
ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (11-9, 5-2 A-10) heads into this weekend's matches riding a three-match winning streak, with all three wins coming against A-10 opponents last week. Current A-10 Player of the Week sophomore Lexie Almodovar leads the conference in both points/set (4.46) and kills/set (3.83) while also serving up 0.42 aces/set (4th A-10) to lead the Flyer offense. On defense, junior Amelia Moore ranks third in all of Division I with 110 total blocks and third in the league with 1.43 blocks/set (16th NCAA). As a team, Dayton ranks second in the A-10 with a .213 hitting percentage and 2.55 blocks/set.
SCOUTING VCU
VCU (9-10, 4-3) split its Atlantic 10 series at Fordham last weekend, dropping a 3-2 decision Friday before claiming a 3-2 win on Saturday. Currently tied with Saint Louis for fifth place in league standings, VCU leads the A-10 with 15.76 digs/set and is second with an opponent hitting percentage of .178. Qairo Bentley is the team's leading attacker with 3.13 kills/set (4th A-10) and Sarah Stratton serves up a team-best 0.34 aces/set. Stratton is also tough at the net, averaging 1.13 blocks/set (6th A-10) and Crew Hoffmeier is the team's leading passer with 3.60 digs/set (9th A-10).
SERIES STUFF
Dayton Leads, 15-7
Dayton and VCU first squared off on Aug. 28, 2010 as the Flyers posted a 3-0 win over the Rams at Frericks Center. UD has won five straight over VCU including two meetings in 2021, a 3-1 win at home and a 3-2 victory in Richmond.
RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's first Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on Oct. 9, Dayton ranked 154th according to NCAA.com. VCU is ranked 185th.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton picked up back-to-back straight-set wins at George Mason last weekend including a 14-kill, seven-dig performance from sophomore Lexie Almodovar on Saturday.

• Tim Horsmon is in his 14th season overall, and ninth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2022. His record at Dayton is 334-99 and his career win-loss mark sits at 510-263 in 24 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's winningest coach after surpassing R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 14 seasons (2009-2022), the Flyers have recorded a 173-16 (.915) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012, a 15-0 record in 2010 and a 16-0 mark in 2021.
