City of Oakwood recently issued the following announcement.
The city of Oakwood is recognizing the month of April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. National Child Abuse Prevention Month, also known as Child Abuse Prevention Month in America, is an annual observance in the United States dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse. April has been designated Child Abuse Prevention Month in the United States since 1983.
At the April 4 public meeting, Oakwood City Council will present a proclamation to CARE House, an advocacy center for children and families affected by abuse in Montgomery County. The proclamation will acknowledge April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and will express Oakwood’s support of the pinwheel project. Prevent Child Abuse America designated the pinwheel as the national symbol for child abuse prevention. Pinwheels signify a vision where all children are able to grow up in supportive families and communities, and represent the great childhoods all children deserve.
The pinwheel project in Oakwood is led by Oakwood resident Terri Jones, a volunteer with CARE House. The pinwheels will be displayed during the month of April in the following four Oakwood locations:
- At Huffman Park, southwest corner of W. Schantz Avenue and Far Hills Avenue.
- Far Hills Avenue center median in front of Oakwood High School.
- Far Hills Avenue center median in front of Wright Library.
- Far Hills Avenue center median at Forrer Boulevard.
