City of Centerville recently issued the following announcement.
The Centerville Arts Commission is pleased to announce the Centerville Art Gallery will feature the work of local artist Felicia Barnes throughout the month of February. The exhibit may be viewed 24 hours a day at the Centerville Police Department, 155 West Spring Valley Road.
The artist will hold a public reception at the Police Department on Sunday, February 13 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Born in Washington DC, Felicia Barnes moved to her father’s hometown in the Philippines when she was 5 years old. When she was 17, the family returned to the United States to her mother’s hometown in Florida. She received a BA in Art from Brigham Young University, then married, had six children and now has 3 grandchildren.
Art has always been a part of Felicia’s life and she has explored many areas – from basketmaking to jewelry making. Now with her youngest child in high school, Felicia is working to take her art to the next level. This is her first solo exhibit and showcases her work over the years, particularly her most recent focus on relief sculptures.
“I love the human form and have always enjoyed drawing figures and portraits. This skill is now very useful to me as I sculpt portraits. The people in my life are of primary importance to me, so I sculpt them. I want to capture a likeness, but also to create a universal appeal as well. I want to celebrate the beauty in every human being, of every race and every age,” Felicia said.
The Centerville Arts Commission was created by Centerville City Council to involve citizens in the visual and performing arts. For more information, call (937) 433-7151 or visit centervilleohio.gov.
