DAYTON, OHIO – Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) announced today that over $400,000 in federal funds have been awarded to local fire departments in the Miami Valley. The recipients include Beavercreek Township, the City of Dayton, and the City of Trotwood, all within Turner's district. These funds were allocated under the Department of Homeland Security’s Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program. The grants can be used for operations and safety, vehicle acquisition, and regional projects.
"The Miami Valley’s firefighters and EMTs put the safety of our community members above their own, and they deserve every resource made available by the federal government," said Congressman Mike Turner. "Supporting our first responders has been a top priority of mine since my time as Mayor of Dayton, and I will continue to advocate in Washington for our community’s finest."
The FY23 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards are as follows:
- Beavercreek Township: $330,909.09
- City of Dayton: $58,909.09
- City of Trotwood: $42,272.72
In total, $432,090.90 has been secured for local fire departments.
The AFG awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Fire Administration. These grants fund critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies, and support community resilience.
Since 2015, more than $11 million has been awarded from the AFG to fire and EMS departments in the Dayton area.
