Boonshoft Museum Of Discovery issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.
It's a surprise baby! Our keepers found several little sea stars living inside a pump that was being replaced in the reef tank. The arms of a Brittle stars, like the one seen here, can reach up to seven inches.
These stars eat decaying matter and plankton, so it could stay in a tiny space in the reef tank for a very long time. After replacing the new parts, the stars were all returned to the tank and have settled safely into small rock crevices.
